Baby Shoes...A Closer Look

Spring is in full bloom and the Summer is not far behind.  And for us at See Kai Run this baby season has us thinking of tiny feet and the perfect shoes for babies. 

To craft the perfect baby shoe we start by studying baby feet, health needs and activity. In the beginning babies are laying, sitting, rolling both ways, stretching and kicking from their backs. As they get older they begin to push themselves up to crawl and even pull themselves up to stand while holding on.

Babies this young have joints and toes that are very malleable, and bones are not yet fully-formed.  Children build strength over time, but as babies, they do not have enough strength to flex a lot of material. That’s why See Kai Run shoes are lightweight, flexible and have outsoles designed for different movements in in each growing stage.

See Kai Run Shoes are proportionally engineered for growing feet and are designed based on a child’s age and development stage. Our Smaller Crib shoes are built for the youngest among us and feature butter-soft leather and are lightweight and flexible so babies can flex toes and begin to develop foot strength. Outsoles consist of a soft suede sole with rubber pads. These shoes are built to be as close to a barefoot experience as possible in order to let the foot develop.

Our Smaller Steps shoes are still very soft, flexible and lightweight but they now feature a full rubber outsole to give babies traction and tread as they lean to stand and walk. 

Both Smaller Crib and Steps feature a roomy toe-box to give babies plenty of wiggle room to develop muscle and tendon strength.  They also feature wide opening closures that make it easy to slip the foot into the shoe without “cramming”.  Careful placement of the adjustable hook and loop closure keeps the foot in place and provides a secure fit.
